Info
This film is about a family; Helena and Jörgen and their three children, who live in a picturesque old house in the countryside, not far from Stockholm. Helena and Jörgen have lost control of their financial situation. The family seems perfectly ordinary, but a crisis is brewing under the surface. Jörgen, the father, is an out-of-work soap opera actor, and the family has fallen behind on the mortgage payments for their beloved house. Jörgen is also beginning to have doubts about his manhood – he feels inadequate at work, and as a provider, a father and a husband. The mother, Helena, a beautiful but rather bitter nurse, is worried about their financial situation and blames her husband. She becomes increasingly depressed and takes her frustration out on her family, particularly the oldest daughter Ninni. Ninni is 16 years old. Her life is pretty complicated. She suspects that her parents are planning a bank robbery. And that her mom is having an affair with the guy she’s in love with. When is she ever going to have time to just be sixteen? Ninni doesn’t want to be a grown-up. Or fall in love. Or have a family. Or be like her mother. But then Ramon turns up, and everything changes. On Midsummer Eve, one of the most cherished holidays of the year in Sweden, Ramon, a young refugee from Colombia, moves into a nearby cottage. His arrival brings a jolt of excitement to the bland community. Outspoken and self-reliant, Ramon knows the ways of the world. He has had experiences that Ninni and her parents can’t even begin to picture. At first, Ninni turns him a cold shoulder. But Ramon’s dangerous and sensuous charm ends up affecting not only Ninni, but the entire family. Her parents are inspired to deal with their problems in a pretty drastic way. When Ninni realizes that Ramon, more or less seriously, is planning a bank robbery with her parents, her world turns upside-down. What will happen to her brother and sister, and to her, if her parents are caught? And can she trust Ramon and his beautiful words of love? When everything falls apart, Ninni is forced to shoulder the responsibility her parents failed to live up to. And she tries to find a workable solution for herself and her siblings. The love between Ninni and Ramon is sorely tested, and he shows his true colors. The family’s love for each other is tested, and the questions remain: how far would you go as a parent for wanting the best for your children? What is really responsibility? A film about the journey taken by Helena and Jörgen to realize what really holds a family together, and the journey taken by Ninni in the first steps of love. A film about grown-ups who won’t grow up, a teen forced to grow up too fast, and a love that brings the world to their doorstep.
