Info

In a small 14th century village Hanna lives with her children. One day she receives a notice that her husband, Ulf the Crusader, is on his way home after four years of battle in the Far East Orient. Armed with bows and arrows, Hanna leaves her home and children and sets out on a horseback journey in order to ride to the coast to meet him. Half way there she is caught up in the black plague, which rapidly spreads throughout the land. She decides to continue in the company of her friend, Joel Fisherman, who has suddenly lost his entire family as a result of the plague. She will soon find herself facing a violent reality with plague, war, poverty and the Christians’ brutal convictions, as the two friends embark on a dangerous and bewildering journey. Encounters with other refugees, among them the abandoned Emma and a shackled prisoner, Torben Barber, force Hanna to fight for her love, her children, and her life.
