MAKE BELIEVE is Swedish director Kjell Grede’s new film, based on a picaresque novel by author Torgny Lindgren. Torgny Lindgren is mostly known for his book The Serpent’s Way, adapted for the screen by internationally acclaimed director Bo Widerberg (THE MAN ON THE ROOF, ALL THINGS FAIR, ADALEN 31).

MAKE BELIEVE is a film about love. A film about love for life, love for the truth and love between two people who don´t understand that they love each other. It is the story about Theodor and Paula, soul mates who shared their childhood, a childhood neither of them can forget. Today however, they live completely different lives. The small town became too small for Paula, who makes a career as a successful singer, while Theodor still lives there, trying to make a living from the frame shop he inherited. He holds on to the old world they used to share, she is part of the new she made for herself. So Paula and Theodor live their lives separately, without understanding that they´re not living their lives to the fullest. Until one day, when Theodor decides to buy a strange painting on an auction, a painting that is the beginning and the end of everything. The film carries us into a whirlpool of events and people that affect their lives in ways that will determine the course of their lives. The big question turns ot to be – for how long can two people love each other, without knowing it?

In the title roles we recognize Shanti Roney (TOGETHER, MAKING BABIES, BECK; REVENGE) and Tuva Novotny (TIC TAC, JALLA! JALLA!, THE INVISIBLE). Novotny was also Shooting Star at the Berlinale in 2002, and can be seen in another NonStop Sales film, SLIM SUSIE (2003) by Ulf Malmros. The film also stars Simon Norrthon (LIKE IT NEVER WAS BEFORE, THE NEW COUNTRY) Örjan Ramberg (THE BOMBER, DAD IS TIRED AGAIN, THE SEVENTH SHOT) and Ing-Marie Carlsson (ANGEL FARM, THE MAN ON THE BALCONY, ONCE IN A LIFETIME).
